TCM causes of postpartum menstrual irregularities in women

Irregular menstruation can occur in postpartum women. Regardless of whether they are breastfeeding or not, women will experience menstrual cycle disorders, abnormal menstrual intervals, and abnormal menstrual volume after childbirth, which seriously endangers women's physical recovery and health. Let's learn about the main causes of irregular menstruation in postpartum women from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine.

1. Loss of body fluid and blood?

Women who give birth naturally suffer severe depletion of Qi and blood due to the exertion of labor, sweating, birth injuries or excessive blood loss. In addition, they suffer from fluid deficiency. If they are not properly cared for in the early postoperative period, they can easily suffer from loss of body fluid and blood, and dispersion of Yang Qi.

2. Blood stasis?

If the uterus of a woman fails to completely discharge blood after childbirth, there may be residual lochia and dirty blood in the uterine cavity, or residual placenta or infection with evil toxins, which can lead to blood stasis and blood poisoning. In addition, if the woman's vital energy is deficient after childbirth, the qi and blood are weak, the qi is stagnant and the blood is deficient, or the meridians are empty after childbirth, she is susceptible to external evils, and the cold evil enters the body, which will cause the blood to become cold and coagulate, which can also lead to poor lochia flow and cause blood stasis.

3. Injury caused by the six external pathogens or diet and sexual intercourse?

After childbirth, Qi and blood are weak, and vital energy is damaged. There is the so-called "empty meridians after childbirth". This is also a dangerous period when external leaks and attacks the body. If care is not taken during and after childbirth, it may lead to organ dysfunction and various diseases.

4. Emotional distress

After giving birth, women sometimes find it difficult to accept the huge changes in their bodies and identities, and may experience negative emotions such as postpartum depression and anxiety. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that worrying hurts the spleen and stomach, and the spleen is the organ that produces blood, so negative emotions can cause women to experience symptoms of irregular menstruation.
