Foreigners are not "foreigners" More than 70% of Americans eat dinner at home

The question that bothers office workers during their three meals a day is "what to eat"? "Where should we eat?" According to the latest data from a Gallup survey, 77% of Americans go home for dinner at night, and only a small number of young people or middle- and high-income groups eat out; this phenomenon has not changed much in the past 20 years.

Surveys show that more than 70% of Americans choose to eat dinner at home, and the average food expenses are declining year by year.

The average American spends about $151 on food each week. This is not much different from the survey data in 1989 that showed 80% of Americans would eat dinner at home and the food expenses at that time were about $157 to $214 per week. There is even a slight decrease.

The survey analysis pointed out that Americans are gradually spending less on food, probably because the drought in the Midwest of the United States has affected the corn and soybean harvests, causing food prices to rise by 3.5%, which has also directly affected Americans' choices in food consumption.

As for Taiwan, according to the "Survey on Eating and Consumption Habits of Office Workers" released by Taipei Medical University Hospital in July 2012, it was found that Taiwanese people generally still tend to eat out, with 78% (6.46 million people) eating out for all three meals. Although the proportion of eating out is relatively high, with nearly 70% of people eating out for brunch and lunch, nearly 80% of people still eat at home for dinner.

In addition to the higher food expenses, eating out also puts a considerable burden on health. Most of the food outside is oily and salty, and the nutritional composition is single, which cannot provide people with a balanced supply of the six major food groups. The survey report also pointed out that nearly 60% of people who eat out (about 3.85 million people) rarely pay attention to nutritional balance during the day, which is very detrimental to their health in the long run.

People who eat out are advised to be careful not to consume too much sodium and fat, and should also not neglect the supplementation of vegetables and milk in order to maintain good health.
