Correcting 3 Misconceptions about Cervical Erosion

Correcting 3 Misconceptions about Cervical Erosion

If cervical erosion is not discovered and treated in time, it can cause serious damage to the female reproductive system. The prerequisite for doing this is to correct the wrong understanding of cervical erosion.

1. Cervical erosion can lead to infertility

Cervical erosion is a manifestation of chronic cervicitis. Some cervicitis is also a physiological disease, and mild and moderate cervical erosion does not affect fertility. Therefore, young patients with cervical erosion do not need to be overly nervous and worried, and do not blindly follow some misleading information and accept wrong treatment.

2. Cervical erosion means the cervix is rotten

Cervical erosion is not just a simple ulceration and bleeding on the surface of the cervix. The cervix is divided into the inner and outer os. The epithelium of the inner os is a very thin red columnar cell, and the outer os is pink squamous epithelium. When chronic cervicitis occurs, very thin red columnar epithelium can cover the outer os, through which the capillaries underneath can be seen, which is the manifestation of ulceration we see.

3. Cervical erosion can be cleaned with vaginal wash

Some patients believe that using vaginal cleaning fluid more often can alleviate the symptoms of cervical erosion, and use some disinfection, sterilization, antipruritic and anti-inflammatory products on their own. In fact, this is wrong, because frequent use of high-concentration disinfectant to flush the vagina can cause varying degrees of damage to the vaginal and cervical epithelium, which is not conducive to the treatment of cervical erosion. Moreover, washing the vagina too frequently can cause an imbalance in the vaginal environment and cause other gynecological diseases.
