Uterine fibroids can become cancerous

Uterine fibroids are known as the "number one gynecological tumor" and can cause irregular menstruation and infertility in women, seriously affecting their physical and mental health. In recent years, the incidence of uterine fibroids has been increasing year by year, and the age of onset is tending to be younger. Although it is a benign tumor, it can become cancerous when it develops to a certain stage.

The so-called benign tumor refers to the abnormal proliferation and reproduction of cells in certain tissues of the human body, which is expansive and grows slowly. As the tumor continues to grow, it can squeeze the surrounding tissues, but will not invade the adjacent normal tissues. The tumor is mostly spherical or nodular, and often forms a capsule around it. It is clearly separated from normal tissues and can be moved by pushing. It is easy to remove it completely during surgery, and recurrence is rare.

Relevant data reports that the malignant transformation rate of uterine fibroids is about 1%, especially in older women. The malignant transformation of uterine fibroids is mainly sarcoma degeneration. Patients who are older, have larger fibroids and grow faster, especially those whose fibroids grow too fast after menopause or reappear after menopause, should pay close attention. In the early stage of malignant transformation, when the malignant fibroids have not yet involved the endometrium, the patient may have thin vaginal discharge, which then becomes serous and bloody. As the tumor grows and grows, the discharge produces a foul odor, accompanied by irregular uterine bleeding. However, some patients with malignant transformation of fibroids do not have any symptoms. Therefore, patients clinically diagnosed with uterine fibroids should be treated early to avoid worsening of the condition and subsequent malignant transformation.
