Why do ovarian cysts occur?

Why do ovarian cysts occur?

Ovarian cysts are common tumors of the female genitalia and can occur at any age, but most often occur during childbearing years. The cause is still unclear, but possible causes include the following:

1. Genetic and family factors

About 20% to 25% of patients have ovarian cysts in their immediate family members, which to some extent indicates that ovarian cysts may be related to genetic and family factors.

2. Endocrine factors

The ovaries are organs that produce eggs and ovulate, and they also secrete hormones. Women of childbearing age with active endocrine function are more likely to develop ovarian cysts. Related studies have shown that pregnancy seems to have an antagonistic effect on ovarian cysts. Breast cancer and endometrial cancer are often complicated by ovarian cysts. The above situations all indicate to some extent that endocrine factors may be one of the important causes of ovarian cysts.

3. Environmental factors

In industrially developed countries, the incidence of ovarian cysts in women is higher, which may be related to factors such as high cholesterol in the diet. Ionizing radiation, asbestos and talcum powder can also affect oocytes, thereby inducing ovarian cysts.

In addition to the above situations, the occurrence of ovarian cysts may also be related to factors such as excessive mental stress, bad living habits, and diet. Unreasonable diet structure, excessive mental stress, and bad living habits such as staying up late, smoking, and drinking will cause women's physical functions to decline, followed by a decline in immune function and endocrine disorders, which will eventually lead to ovarian cysts.
