Are cervical erosion and polyps the same thing? Are they contagious?

Cervical erosion and polyps are not the same problem, nor are they contagious. Cervical erosion is a physiological phenomenon, while polyps are a pathological change. The two are different in nature and the treatment methods are also different.

1. The difference between cervical erosion and polyps

Cervical erosion is the manifestation of the outward migration of the cervical columnar epithelium, which is a normal physiological phenomenon and not a disease. Polyps are benign hyperplasia of the cervix or endometrium, which may be caused by inflammation, hormonal changes or chronic stimulation.

2. Causes and treatment of cervical erosion

Cervical erosion is mainly related to changes in hormone levels, especially the effects of estrogen. This condition usually does not require special treatment, but regular cervical screening is required to rule out other lesions. If accompanied by symptoms such as increased vaginal discharge or contact bleeding, local treatments such as laser, freezing or electrocautery can be performed.

3. Causes and treatment of cervical polyps

The formation of cervical polyps may be related to chronic inflammation, hormone imbalance or local irritation. Treatment includes surgical removal, common methods include cervical polypectomy, hysteroscopic polypectomy or electrosurgical resection. Regular follow-up is required after surgery to prevent recurrence.

4. Infectious problems

Cervical erosion and polyps are not contagious and cannot be transmitted through sexual contact or other means. However, concomitant diseases such as cervicitis may be contagious and require protection.

5. Prevention and daily care

Maintain good personal hygiene habits, have regular gynecological examinations, and promptly detect and treat cervical problems. Avoid excessive vaginal cleaning to avoid disrupting the balance of normal flora. Eating more foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, can help maintain a healthy cervix.

Although cervical erosion and polyps are common, their nature and treatment methods are different. With regular examinations and appropriate treatment, related problems can be effectively managed and prevented to keep the cervix healthy.
