Is it normal to have abnormal vaginal discharge during early pregnancy?

Abnormal leucorrhea in early pregnancy may be a normal physiological change, but it may also be a signal of certain diseases, which needs to be judged based on the specific circumstances.

The cause of abnormal leucorrhea in the early pregnancy period is mainly related to changes in hormone levels. After pregnancy, the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body increase, leading to increased vaginal discharge, which is a normal physiological phenomenon. Leucorrhea is usually milky white or transparent, thin in texture, and has no obvious odor. However, if the leucorrhea has an abnormal color (such as yellow, green, or grayish white), a change in texture (such as tofu dregs or foam), is accompanied by an odor or vulvar itching or burning, it may be a sign of infection or other diseases. Common pathological causes include bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis, or Trichomonas vaginitis. Diseases such as cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease may also cause abnormal leucorrhea.

If abnormal leucorrhea is accompanied by discomfort, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time. The doctor will conduct examinations according to the specific situation, such as routine examination of leucorrhea, cervical smear or B-ultrasound, to clarify the cause. For infectious abnormal leucorrhea, the doctor may prescribe medication, such as metronidazole for bacterial vaginitis, clotrimazole suppositories for candidal vaginitis, or oral metronidazole for Trichomonas vaginitis. At the same time, pregnant women should pay attention to personal hygiene in daily life, choose cotton underwear, avoid using irritating lotions to clean the vulva, and keep the vulva dry and clean. In terms of diet, eating more foods rich in vitamin C and probiotics, such as yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, can help enhance immunity and prevent infection. If the symptoms persist or worsen, do not take medication on your own, and you should return to the doctor in time to avoid adverse effects on the fetus.
