Survey: More than 40% of people exercise less than 3 times a week

The survey found that more than 40% of people in Taiwan lack regular exercise, and some even get significantly less exercise. Doctors say that regular exercise plus diet control is the only way to lose weight. In particular, you should reduce the intake of high-calorie, high-fat foods, and at the same time rely on exercise to burn fat, increase muscle, and increase your metabolic rate. Only by taking a two-pronged approach can you lose weight successfully.

The Obesity Medical Association of the Republic of China recently conducted a questionnaire survey on 1,000 adult men and women with overweight BMI (body mass index). It was found that more than 40% of the respondents lacked regular exercise, exercising less than three times a week, or even exercising for less than 30 minutes each time. There were more women than men.

Liu Canhong, director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Shuanghe Hospital, pointed out that when using exercise as a method to lose weight, one must have the correct concept, that is, exercise can only be used as one of the tools for weight loss, but not the only tool. When losing weight, it must be combined with diet control because diet control is the main factor in weight loss.

Generally speaking, a normal person needs about 2000 calories a day. When losing weight, the calorie intake must be controlled at around 1200 calories a day. In a month, consuming 22400 calories less can reduce about 3 kg of weight, which is more effective than relying on exercise alone. Therefore, diet control is the protagonist of weight loss, and exercise is only a supporting role.

Chief Physician Liu Canhong emphasized that exercise is absolutely necessary during the weight loss process. If you lack exercise during the weight loss process, even if you succeed in losing weight, the muscles and skin that you lose will appear loose and sagging, and you will look unhealthy. Exercise can improve this situation. In addition, exercise can also increase cardiopulmonary function. The medical community has now confirmed that only exercise can prevent weight regain, so exercise has a significant impact on maintaining weight after losing weight.

In addition, developing regular exercise can not only exercise the body, but also improve the body's tolerance and reduce the occurrence of muscle soreness. If exercise is not effective in losing weight, don't be too discouraged, because exercise is still very helpful for cardiopulmonary function. According to research, under the same weight, obese people who do not exercise are 5 times more likely to suffer from cardiopulmonary diseases than obese people who exercise, and their mortality rate is also higher than that of obese people who exercise.
