Why is leucorrhea abnormally itchy?

Abnormal vaginal discharge accompanied by itching may be a sign of vaginal inflammation or other gynecological problems. Vaginitis is a common gynecological disease in women, usually caused by bacterial, fungal or parasitic infections. Symptoms include increased vaginal discharge, abnormal color, odor, and vulvar itching.

Under normal circumstances, leucorrhea is a natural secretion of the female reproductive system, mainly secreted by the glands of the cervical and vaginal mucosa, which plays a role in lubrication and protection. The amount and texture of leucorrhea will fluctuate with the menstrual cycle, but if there is a significant change in color (such as yellow-green, grayish white), odor, or itching, you need to be alert.

Bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis and trichomonas vaginitis are the three most common types. Bacterial vaginitis usually manifests as increased leucorrhea, grayish white, with a fishy smell; candidal vaginitis causes leucorrhea to be like tofu dregs and itching; trichomonas vaginitis may cause leucorrhea to be yellow-green and foamy, accompanied by a burning sensation in the vulva. These symptoms are not only uncomfortable, but may also affect daily life and mood.

To relieve the symptoms, you can try some daily care methods. For example, keep the vulva clean and dry, avoid using irritating lotions or soaps, choose cotton underwear and change it frequently. In terms of diet, reducing sugar intake can help inhibit the growth of mold. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time. The doctor may determine the cause through routine examination of leucorrhea and prescribe appropriate medication, such as antibiotics, antifungal drugs or anti-trichomoniasis drugs.

Do not take medication or wash liquids on your own, as this may disrupt the normal balance of vaginal flora and aggravate symptoms. At the same time, your partner may also need treatment together to avoid cross infection. Although abnormal vaginal discharge is common, timely intervention and proper care are key to avoid small problems from turning into big troubles.
