Are ovarian cysts serious? What are the specific symptoms?

The hazards of ovarian cysts are as follows:

1. Cause edema and affect life

In addition to loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal distension, patients with ovarian cysts may also experience vomiting, fever and severe abdominal pain; in the later stages, it may even lead to edema of the abdomen and limbs.

2. Leading to premature aging of women’s appearance

Ovarian cysts can cause endocrine disorders, premature aging, malignant changes, and even ovarian cancer.

3. Cause miscarriage and dystocia

Ovarian cysts may cause miscarriage in early pregnancy, ovarian cyst pedicle torsion is more likely to occur in mid-pregnancy, and larger cysts in late pregnancy may lead to abnormal fetal position, which may block the birth canal and cause dystocia during delivery.

4. Cause infertility and affect fertility

Once the ovarian cyst becomes larger or degenerates, it is possible that the sperm, eggs or fertilized eggs cannot function normally, thus affecting fertility and leading to infertility.

5. Canceration, life-threatening

Ovarian cysts can easily become infected, twisted, bleed or burst, threatening the patient's life. Some tumorous cysts can even become cancerous.

Generally, ovarian cysts, even bilateral ovarian cysts, do not cause menstrual disorders because they do not destroy all normal ovarian tissues. Some uterine bleeding is not endocrine, but may be caused by ovarian tumors that change the pelvic blood vessels, causing endometrial congestion; or by ovarian malignant tumors that directly metastasize to the endometrium. Menstrual disorders caused by endocrine tumors are often combined with other secretory effects.
