What is chronic cervicitis

What is chronic cervicitis

Chronic cervicitis is the most common gynecological disease. It may occur after acute cervicitis, or due to cervical laceration caused by various reasons, resulting in deformation of the cervical opening, which is often very susceptible to infection by external bacteria.

Chronic cervicitis is mostly caused by the invasion of pathogens after childbirth, abortion or surgery that damages the cervix, leading to infection. The main clinical manifestations include increased vaginal discharge, which may be milky white or slightly yellow, or viscous and purulent, sometimes bloody or mixed with blood. Patients may experience pain in the lower abdomen or lumbosacral region, which may worsen during menstruation, bowel movements or sexual intercourse. Chronic cervicitis also includes a variety of diseases, such as cervical erosion, cervical hypertrophy, cervical polyps, cervical glandular cysts, etc. Cervical erosion is the most common, while others such as cervical hypertrophy and cervical polyps also fall into the category of chronic cervicitis.

The diagnosis of chronic cervicitis is usually found during routine gynecological examinations. Through speculum inspection, bright red fine-grained erosion areas and purulent mucoid leucorrhea can be seen on the cervix. The symptoms of chronic cervicitis are often masked by other gynecological diseases, so careful identification is required during diagnosis.

Treatments for chronic cervicitis include medication, physical therapy, etc. The specific treatment plan should be determined based on the patient's condition and the doctor's advice. At the same time, it is also very important to prevent the occurrence of chronic cervicitis. You should pay attention to personal hygiene, avoid unclean sexual behavior, and actively treat gynecological infectious diseases.
