How to treat hydrosalpinx caused by pelvic inflammatory disease?

Hydrosalpinx caused by pelvic inflammatory disease is generally better treated with medication, physical therapy, and surgery.

1. Drug treatment

The doctor will choose the appropriate treatment method according to the patient's specific situation to eliminate the hydrops, restore the normal anatomical structure and function of the fallopian tubes, and relieve clinical symptoms. For those with less hydrops, if there are no obvious clinical symptoms and fertility requirements, they can be temporarily observed; those who need treatment can be treated with drugs. Commonly used drugs include gentamicin, hyaluronidase, chymotrypsin, dexamethasone, etc.

2. Physical therapy

Thermal stimulation can promote local blood circulation, which is beneficial to the absorption and disappearance of inflammation. Commonly used methods include ultrashort wave, microwave, ultraviolet irradiation, etc.

3. Surgical treatment

For patients with severe lesions, impaired fallopian tube function, and difficulty in recovery, surgical treatment can be selected. Patients with mild hydrosalpinx can undergo laparoscopic salpingostomy; patients with severe hydrosalpinx can undergo salpingectomy; for patients with mild lesions and a small diameter of hydrosalpinx <3cm, or severe pelvic adhesions that cannot be surgically removed, tubal ligation can be used. Tubal embolization can be used for patients with hydrosalpinx who cannot undergo intraperitoneal surgery. Ultrasound-guided hydrosalpinx puncture and aspiration and ultrasound-guided hydrosalpinx aspiration sclerotherapy can also be selected according to the patient's condition.
