Will there be any pain when doing a transvaginal ultrasound?

Generally, there will be no pain during a vaginal ultrasound examination because the vaginal ultrasound probe is very thin and lubricant is applied to the probe to prevent the person being examined from experiencing dryness or pain. However, if the person suffers from gynecological inflammation or is too nervous, there may be slight pain.

Vaginal color ultrasound has clearer images than ordinary abdominal color ultrasound, and there is no need to hold urine during the examination, so it is currently a common gynecological examination method in clinical practice. When performing a vaginal ultrasound examination, the vaginal ultrasound probe needs to be inserted deep into the vagina. Some women are worried about the pain and are unwilling to do this examination. So, does vaginal ultrasound hurt?
1. Is vaginal ultrasound painful?
1. Most of the time, the examinee will not feel pain
Generally, there will be no pain during vaginal ultrasound examination, but there will be slight discomfort. Because the probe used in vaginal ultrasound examination is very thin, it will not make the examinee feel pain after being inserted into the vagina; condoms will also be put on the vaginal ultrasound probe, and there will be lubricants on the condoms, so the examinee will not experience dryness and pain symptoms. However, during the examination, the probe needs to be swung back and forth and left and right in the vagina, which will stimulate the vaginal wall and cervical wall, so there will be some discomfort.
2. A small number of people being examined may feel pain
(1) Suffering from gynecological inflammation
When suffering from gynecological inflammation such as cervicitis and vaginitis, the vaginal ultrasound will swing back and forth and left and right in the vagina, which will cause certain irritation to the affected area and may also cause pain symptoms due to pulling adhesions and inflammatory areas.
(2) Being too nervous
Some women become extremely nervous during vaginal ultrasound examinations, which may cause spasms in the vagina and cervix. They may also feel slight pain. Just focus on relaxing.
2. How to do a vaginal ultrasound
When doing a vaginal ultrasound, the person being examined needs to urinate first, and then a condom should be used to cover the vaginal probe. A disinfectant coupling agent should be applied inside and outside the condom, and then the probe is inserted into the vagina to observe the entire pelvic structure. The patient should pay attention to relax and not be too nervous, so as not to affect the examination results. Generally, women who do not have sex are not allowed to undergo this type of examination.
