Is Bartholinitis contagious?

Many patients want to know whether Bartholin's glanditis is contagious or not. Some diseases may be contracted by people without knowing it, so it is necessary to understand whether a disease is contagious in order to effectively prevent it.

Bartholinitis is a gynecological disease caused by bacterial infection. It is not a transmitted disease and is not contagious.

The main cause of Bartholinitis is the entry of pathogenic bacteria into the gland. The entry of pathogens is related to the following factors:

1. History of unclean sexual intercourse: For example, if the man is infected with gonorrhea and has not been completely cured but has sex with him, the gonococci on the head of the penis will enter the vestibular glands through the duct opening at the vaginal opening; having sex during menstruation can also "press" the pathogenic bacteria in the menstrual blood into the duct opening and enter the deep part of the gland.

2. If the delivery is vaginal, the bacteria can enter the glands through the wound.

3. Not paying attention to the cleanliness of the vulva, such as touching the vulva with dirty hands, not washing the vulva every day, and not changing underwear frequently, can cause the bacteria to multiply and increase in the vaginal opening and enter the gland through the gland duct opening. This is more common in unmarried girls.

Expert Tip: Bartholinitis is mainly caused by bacterial infection of the Bartholin glands, which in turn causes poor drainage of the gland duct opening. Therefore, keeping the vulva clean is the main way to prevent infection. Washing the vulva every day, not wearing nylon underwear, and timely treatment of vulvitis can prevent the occurrence of Bartholinitis to a certain extent.
