Diseases that cause uterine amenorrhea

Diseases that cause uterine amenorrhea

The cause of amenorrhea is that the uterus, menstrual regulation function, and ovarian function are normal, but the endometrium cannot produce a normal response to the ovaries, so it is called uterine amenorrhea. The establishment of a normal menstrual cycle depends on the neuroendocrine regulation between the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis and the cyclic response of the endometrium to changes in gonadal hormones. Therefore, no matter which of the above links changes, it can lead to amenorrhea. Common diseases that cause uterine amenorrhea include:

Endometrial damage or adhesion syndrome

Endometrial damage or adhesion syndrome often occurs after induced abortion, postpartum hemorrhage or post-abortion bleeding. After curettage, it is mostly due to excessive curettage, which damages the uterus, causes uterine cavity adhesions, and uterine amenorrhea.

Endometritis

The most common endometritis that causes amenorrhea is tuberculous endometritis. The patient's entire uterine cavity often develops edema and exudation. The acute phase can also cause systemic symptoms, including fever, chills, and leukocytosis. Other severe endometritis after miscarriage or postpartum may cause amenorrhea.

An underdeveloped or absent uterus

Due to the incomplete or aplastic development of the renal tubes, which leads to incomplete or aplastic development of the uterus, patients often present with primary amenorrhea.

After hysterectomy or intrauterine radiation therapy

After hysterectomy for reproductive tract diseases or intracavitary radiotherapy for some uterine malignancies, the endometrium is destroyed. Patients may experience uterine amenorrhea.
