Sleep well and lose weight faster! To lose weight, check your sleep quality first

What do you do when you can't sleep? In fact, many people "eat" when they can't sleep. There are two reasons to explain this phenomenon. I believe everyone has ever felt sleepy after eating a full meal?

The physiological phenomenon of feeling sleepy after eating is not limited to humans. For animals, this physiological phenomenon means that they are in a safe environment.

When people are sleep deprived, they will naturally feel hungry and want to eat.

When you feel uneasy because you can't sleep, the act of eating can unconsciously bring a sense of security, soothing your emotions, allowing the body's parasympathetic nervous system to relax and rest, and the body can naturally fall asleep - it is because of this familiar physical experience that people will naturally want to eat something when they can't sleep.

Another reason is the role of hormones. When sleep time is shortened, the human body will secrete a large amount of ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite. At the same time, the secretion of leptin, which has the effect of suppressing appetite, will decrease. Under such circumstances, people will naturally feel hungry and want to eat when they suffer from insomnia, and may even eat too much.

Ghrelin and leptin actually antagonize each other just like the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, and while maintaining a balance, they allow the body to generate appetite or suppress appetite at the right time. However, if there is a problem with sleep, the secretion of one of the hormones will become relatively higher, causing an imbalance in the body. If ghrelin, the switch that triggers food intake, is continuously activated, the human body will easily become prone to overeating. However, eating too much can also have a negative impact on sleep, which in turn makes people want to eat more food, thus falling into an endless vicious cycle.

Some of my patients suffer from eating disorders due to this factor. They eat too much and become obese, which also has a negative impact on their health. Not only that, lack of sleep also causes a decrease in basal metabolic rate, causing them to eat too much and sleep too little.

The so-called basal metabolism refers to the calories consumed by the human body to maintain life. The higher the basal metabolic rate, the better the effect of burning fat and losing weight. Many people who are able to lose weight easily are able to maintain their figure because they have a good metabolic capacity.

Improve basal metabolic rate and re-examine sleep quality

The conditions for increasing the basal metabolic rate, including the normal secretion of growth hormone and the maintenance of muscle mass, are both affected by lack of sleep. When appetite increases and metabolism decreases, weight will naturally soar. Columbia University in the United States once conducted a research investigation on the correlation between sleep duration and obesity. The results found that people who sleep an average of 7 to 8 hours have the lowest obesity rate.

When you work out hard but the weight loss effect is not as expected, please give up abusing your body by controlling your diet and re-examine your sleep quality and status. You should get unexpected surprises.
