To relieve dysmenorrhea, you can choose to use traditional Chinese medicine foot bath method

Traditional Chinese medicine can classify dysmenorrhea into qi stagnation and blood stasis type, yang deficiency and cold excess type, qi deficiency and blood deficiency type, etc. Selecting appropriate Chinese medicine for foot soaking according to the symptoms can help relieve dysmenorrhea.

Qi stagnation and blood stasis type

Symptoms: abdominal distension and pain before or during menstruation, dark menstrual blood with blood clots.

Treatment: Regulate Qi and blood, resolve blood stasis and relieve pain.

Medicines: Citrus aurantium, Linderae strychnifolia, Leonurus japonicus, Ligusticum chuanxiong, and Safflower.

Foot soaking method: add the above medicines to about two liters of water and about 50 ml of vinegar, boil over high heat, and then simmer for 30 minutes over low heat. When the medicine cools to 50℃, pour it into a basin with the residue and soak your feet. The amount of foot bath liquid in the basin should be enough to immerse the ankle joint. If the amount of liquid medicine is insufficient, add appropriate amount of warm water. The feet keep moving in the medicine, so that the soles of the feet receive slight physical stimulation from the residue, and each time for more than 30 minutes. Before soaking your feet, you can fumigate your feet with hot air, and start soaking your feet when the water temperature is suitable. You can add hot water during the soaking process.

Yang deficiency and cold excess type

Symptoms: Cold pain in lower abdomen, pain relieved by hot compress, cold hands and feet.

Treatment: Warming the meridians and dispersing cold.

Medicines: cinnamon, cloves, lindera strychnifolia, angelica, chuanxiong, dried ginger, fennel, and evodia rutaecarpa.

The foot soaking method is as above.

Qi deficiency and blood deficiency

Symptoms: dull pain in the lower abdomen during or after menstruation, slight pain when pressing the abdomen with hands, small amount of menstrual flow and light color.

Treatment: Tonify Qi, nourish blood and regulate menstruation.

Medicines: white peony root, angelica root, chuanxiong, rehmannia root, atractylodes macrocephala, eucommia bark, and astragalus root.

The foot soaking method is as above.
