Does ovarian cyst affect fertility?

The ovaries are an important part of the female reproductive system. Although they are small in size, they are the most prone to various tumors. There are many types of tumors, and ovarian cysts are one of them. Although ovarian cysts are benign, the harm they cause to the patient's body should not be underestimated.

The impact of ovarian cysts on pregnant women cannot be ignored. Pregnancy with ovarian cysts is more likely to cause torsion and rupture than non-pregnancy; in early pregnancy, the tumor embedding in the pelvic cavity can cause miscarriage; in late pregnancy, the tumor blocking the birth canal can cause obstructive dystocia.

Ovarian cysts are easy to detect in early pregnancy, often presenting as unilateral, active tumors. Elective surgery can be performed to remove the tumor three months after pregnancy to avoid complications such as miscarriage. It is not easy to detect after the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Even if it is found, surgery must be performed after the fetus is delivered, because surgery at this time increases the risk of premature birth. If the tumor is large and there is a risk of blocking the birth canal and causing obstructive dystocia, preparations for a cesarean section should be made and the tumor removed at the same time. If an ovarian cyst develops rapidly during pregnancy and there is a risk of pedicle torsion or rupture, surgery should be performed as soon as possible and it is not advisable to wait.

Patients with ovarian cysts during pregnancy should increase the frequency of prenatal examinations appropriately, strengthen protection during pregnancy, and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms such as abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding occur.
