5 factors that increase the risk of recurrence of candidal vaginitis

Candida vaginitis is caused by infection with Candida albicans and is a common type of vaginitis. The disease is prone to recurrence. Clinical survey data show that more than 3/4 of women have suffered from candida vaginitis at least once in their lives, nearly half of the patients may be repeatedly infected 2 to 3 times, and about 4% to 5% of patients are repeatedly infected more than 4 times. (≥4 times/year). Repeated infection of candida vaginitis not only brings physical pain to patients, but also increases psychological pressure and troubles, and even affects the reproductive health of patients.

At present, it is generally believed that the recurrence of candidal vaginitis is related to the following 5 factors:

1. Excessive sexual activity

The incidence of Candida vaginitis is higher in women who have frequent sexual activity and do not have exclusive sexual partners, which is related to cross-infection caused by sexual behavior.

2. Improper vaginal douching

Excessive vaginal douching or frequent use of various washing solutions causes abnormal changes in the vaginal environment, leading to an imbalance of normal flora and increased acidity, laying the foundation for Candida reinfection.

3. Abuse of antibiotics

In order to "prevent" possible infections, some women often take broad-spectrum antibiotics on their own, which also destroys the local defense mechanism of the vagina, causing dysbacteriosis and frequent infections.

4. Smoking

The incidence of recurrent candidal vaginitis in women who smoke is much higher than that in women who do not smoke, which may be related to the decrease in the body's immunity caused by smoking.
