If you drink strong tea as water for a long time, the consequences will be beyond your imagination! Nutritionist Cheng Mingwei reveals: Be careful of triggering three major health crises

"Tea" is a traditional Chinese food culture, and tea is also the most favorite drink of the Chinese people. The ancients believed that tea was an elixir of health and a secret recipe for longevity. The Shennong Herbal Classic records that "tea tastes bitter, but drinking it can help people think better, sleep less, feel lighter, and improve eyesight." Therefore, the idea that "drinking tea is good for health" has always existed. New Nutrition Food Revolution nutritionist Cheng Mingwei said that drinking tea has many benefits, but drinking strong tea as water for a long time and excessive drinking may be harmful to the body!

Drinking strong tea as water may lead to 3 problems

Nutritionist Cheng Mingwei said that drinking tea has many health benefits. The most commonly consumed teas are black tea and green tea. Green tea is an unfermented tea and is rich in catechins and tannins. Black tea is a fully fermented tea with less catechins and tannins, but rich in flavonoids. Both catechins and flavonoids have antioxidant effects, which can fight free radicals in the body and help delay aging.

However, nutritionist Cheng Mingwei said that if you drink strong tea as water for a long time just because it is good for your health, it may lead to the following three conditions:

Drinking tea has many health benefits. The most commonly consumed teas are black tea and green tea. Green tea is an unfermented tea and is rich in catechins and tannins.

Condition 1: Constipation

Tea contains tannic acid and theophylline. Excessive tannic acid will reduce the secretion of the small intestine, inhibit intestinal peristalsis, and cause worse gastrointestinal motility. According to a study published in the British Medical Journal in 1981, excessive theophylline can cause dehydration of the extracellular fluid, increase the glomerular filtration rate and reduce tubular reabsorption, ultimately leading to constipation.

In addition to theophylline and tannic acid, tea also contains caffeine, which has a diuretic effect. If you drink tea as water, it may cause your body to be dehydrated, and the feces formed in the intestines will be dry and hard. Coupled with poor gastrointestinal motility, you will naturally suffer from constipation.

Condition 2: Reduced calcium absorption

Caffeine will reduce calcium absorption. If you have osteoporosis problems, it is recommended to reduce the frequency of drinking tea or coffee. Caffeine is a diuretic, and the body needs to be replenished with water at all times (at least 2000c.c. of water a day). You can drink small amounts multiple times, but if you have kidney disease or heart disease and need to limit water intake, you should pay special attention to the water restriction. It is best to consult a nutritionist or doctor first.

If you have osteoporosis problems, it is recommended to reduce the frequency of drinking tea or coffee. Caffeine is a diuretic, and the body needs to be replenished with water at all times (at least 2000cc of water a day).

Condition 3: Affects iron absorption

If people who already have anemia drink excessive amounts of strong tea for a long time, the excess tannic acid in the tea will reduce small intestinal secretions, inhibit intestinal peristalsis, and affect the absorption of iron, reducing the absorption rate of iron in the body, which may aggravate the anemia. It is recommended to replace tea with a glass of fresh juice. The vitamin C rich in juice can promote the absorption of iron.

Drinking tea is good for health and anti-oxidation, the upper limit is 600cc per day

So how do we drink tea correctly so as not to harm our body? Nutritionist Cheng Mingwei pointed out that there is currently no upper limit for tea drinking. It is recommended to drink tea moderately no more than 600 cc (about the amount of a plastic bottle) per day, but if any discomfort occurs, please reduce the amount or stop drinking. In addition, the caffeine, tannin and theophylline content of tea of different types, origins and processing processes are not the same. It is recommended to drink tea 1 to 2 hours after a meal to avoid affecting the absorption rate of calcium and iron. Patients with gastrointestinal ulcers are advised to replace tea with water to reduce irritation to the stomach and intestines.

If people have suffered from constipation due to long-term drinking of strong tea, nutritionist Cheng Mingwei recommends "Nut Banana Kiwi Juice" to relieve constipation.
