Lian Huixin’s endorsement went wrong! Viagra confirmed to contain banned drugs

The weight loss food "Vital Fiber Plus" endorsed by celebrity Lian Huixin was recently exposed by Taipei City Councilor Ruan Zhaoxiong to contain the Western medicine ingredient Cetilistat. It was sent for testing by the Taipei City Health Bureau and the results came out in the evening, confirming that it contains banned drug ingredients. Since the case involves criminal liability, it has been transferred to the prosecutor's office for investigation.

On the 16th of this month, Councillor Nguyen Zhaoxiong presented a report on the results of self-tests submitted by the public, stating that the "Weilixian Plus" sold by Jingyinsong Biotechnology Co., Ltd., although a weight loss health food, contains the unapproved drug ingredient Cetilistat.

The Department of Health further sent the product to the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare for inspection, and the results confirmed that the drug ingredient "cetilistat" was indeed added. The Health Bureau stated that cetilistat is still in the clinical trial stage abroad, its safety and effectiveness have not yet been established, and the Ministry of Health and Services has not yet approved the issuance of the relevant drug license.

The Department of Health stated that businesses that violate the provisions of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act by illegally manufacturing and importing nuclear counterfeit banned drugs may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to NT$10 million; sellers will be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison and a fine of up to NT$5 million.

It is understood that Cetilistat, which has not yet obtained a drug license in Taiwan, is similar to Orlistat, an ingredient in the currently approved weight loss drug "Roche Fresh". It is a fat inhibitor that may affect the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

The Department of Health appeals to the public that most of the drugs currently approved for weight control in the country are "prescription drugs" and must be diagnosed and prescribed by a doctor. People should also avoid purchasing food containing medicines on their own, let alone purchasing food or medicines from unknown sources, so as to avoid unexpected side effects or complications that could seriously endanger their personal health.
