Gastric water polo player removed the stomach after 6 months, and celebrities are also crazy

Since Dr. Edward Mason, the "father of bariatric surgery" in the United States, developed a variety of restrictive bariatric surgeries, including gastric reduction and other different gastric bariatric surgeries, the introduction of gastric banding and minimally invasive surgery in the 1990s began to be widely used in Europe and the United States, which can be said to have laid the foundation for the development of subsequent weight loss surgeries. Among them, the earliest one to be introduced is the "gastric balloon surgery", which has had many successful cases in Taiwan in recent years, including many celebrities.

Gastric balloon surgery uses a balloon to take up part of the stomach space, making the patient feel full and thus achieving the effect of weight loss.

Veteran singer Kong Lanxun's daughter Liu Xiaoyi underwent a "gastric balloon surgery" two years ago, which reduced her weight by 14 kilograms from 86 kilograms to 72 kilograms. The whole person is several sizes smaller. Director Wang Wei of the Weight Management Center of the Peking University Health Science Center said that before losing weight, one should first have a concept of an ideal weight to avoid losing weight while also losing health. The World Health Organization's method of calculating standard weight is (height cm - 80) × 70% for men and (height cm - 70) × 60% for women. A standard weight of plus or minus 10% is normal weight, plus or minus 10% to 20% is overweight or underweight, and plus or minus 20% or more is obese or underweight.

The intragastric water balloon weight loss treatment can reduce the total body weight by an average of 10 to 15%. Each intragastric water balloon has a unique number like an ID card, which will be recorded and tracked after being inserted into the human body. When the water balloon fills the stomach, it occupies most of the space in the stomach, so the patient will feel full and will not want to eat much. Therefore, it is a restrictive weight loss surgery.

The water balloon is placed for up to 6 months, and then the liquid in the water balloon is extracted and removed using an endoscope. During the six-month treatment period, the patient must follow the doctor's instructions, adjust his diet, exercise appropriately, and avoid high-sugar and high-fat foods in order to safely achieve the best weight loss effect. The Department of Health has approved gastric balloon surgery for people with severe obesity. Reports from different hospitals show that patients can lose an average of 11 kilograms in half a year, which shows that this surgery is also one of the options for weight loss.
