Different types of vulvar leukoplakia have different symptoms

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the onset of vulvar leukoplakia is closely related to the functions of the liver, kidneys and spleen. The disease is divided into four types based on the functional impairment of each organ, and the symptoms of each type of patient are very different.

1. Spleen deficiency and dryness type

The main symptoms of patients with vulvar leukoplakia of spleen deficiency and dryness type are white, dry, dull, wrinkled and cracked vulvar skin; severe vaginal itching, especially at night. This is mainly caused by chronic illness that consumes qi and blood or blood loss and qi loss in the body, resulting in Chong and Ren blood deficiency, which leads to dry skin.

2. Liver and kidney yin deficiency

The main symptoms of patients with liver and kidney yin deficiency type vulvar leukoplakia are vaginal itching, especially at night; vulvar atrophy, and abnormal dryness and thinness of the lesions. In severe cases, the labia majora may become flat, the labia minora may disappear, and the vaginal opening may shrink. This is mainly related to excessive sexual activity or old age and physical weakness, which can lead to loss of essence and blood.

3. Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency

The main symptoms of patients with leukoplakia vulvae of spleen and kidney yang deficiency type are obvious whitening of the vulva skin; the symptoms of atrophy, thickening and roughness of the vulva coexist alternately. This is mainly due to the loss of warmth in the genitals, and the stagnation of yang cold on the genitals muscle surface, which blocks the circulation of qi and blood.

4. Liver meridian damp-heat type

The main symptoms of patients with liver meridian damp-heat type vulvar leukoplakia are gradual loss of pigmentation of genital skin and mucous membranes, and the skin becomes rough and wrinkled; obvious vaginal itching, often accompanied by redness, swelling and burning pain, yellow pus will flow out of scratched areas, and there are changes similar to dampness; leucorrhea increases and turns yellow with a foul odor. This is mainly related to long-term depression or anger that damages the liver and causes liver qi stagnation.
