People who are addicted to their phones are catching Pokémon like crazy. Eat less and exercise more, or you will fall into the risk of obesity.

Liu Bowen, executive director of the Taiwan Obesity Prevention and Treatment Education Association and a weight loss specialist who treated the case, said that in clinical clinics, there are indeed people who have gained weight rapidly due to their enthusiasm for catching Pokemon. In particular, a crazy trend of catching Pokemon has emerged in recent days, with more people looking down at their phones to catch Pokemon, and more people staying up late at night to catch Pokemon. As a result, the number of obese people has also increased significantly.

Focus on catching treasures, be careful of obesity

During the consultation, it was found that this woman would spend an average of 2 to 3 hours a day treasure hunting. When she was crazy, she would even stay up all night, and her normal three meals a day were completely disrupted. Because she was so focused on catching Pokémon, she forgot to eat. Once she felt hungry, she ate more. The calories she burned by walking were not enough to offset the calories she ate.

The patient herself lacks awareness of weight control. As a result of "eating less and exercising less", her metabolism slows down, and she eats whatever she wants when she is hungry. This decreased focus on eating actually reduces her sense of fullness. No wonder she ate several bags of potato chips and hamburgers in one go and still felt hungry, which invisibly led to an obesity crisis.

Potato chips and alcohol are high-calorie foods, which, combined with long periods of sitting, can easily increase the risk of obesity.

How much exercise can lead to obesity risk

Dr. Liu Boen emphasized that many people may think that catching Pokémon requires going outdoors. After walking for 10 minutes or even a few hours, you have walked a lot and should have consumed a lot of calories, which will help you lose weight. Some people also regard catching Pokémon as exercise, walking and catching Pokémon to burn calories and lose weight.

In fact, not many people use catching treasures to burn calories and thus achieve weight control. Instead, more people are gaining weight. Dr. Liu Bowen said that the reason is that the metabolism slows down, which reduces the sense of fullness, and people eat more. "How much you eat and how much you exercise" is the key to obesity.

The root cause of this lady's sudden weight gain was due to catching treasures. Because the crazy pursuit of Pokémon Go disrupted her regular schedule, her three meals became irregular, and her concentration was all on catching Pokémon Go. Her focus on "food" decreased, causing the sensitivity of the hypothalamus to decrease. Coupled with her uncontrolled eating, she was at risk of obesity.
