Will this make you fat? Bacteria are the culprit of obesity

Working overtime late at night, having a few drinks after get off work, and all that time you spend sacrificing sleep to scroll through Facebook and Instagram, are you getting less than eight hours of sleep a day? Although everyone knows the importance of diet and exercise in maintaining a good figure, another invisible cause of obesity is often overlooked - jet lag.

Studies have shown that jet lag caused by irregular sleep patterns can also lead to weight gain. The consequences of insufficient or abnormal sleep are more than just a groggy morning!

According to research, when the sleep of mice is disturbed, the digestive flora in the body also becomes abnormal. The increase of these bad bacteria in the body has been identified as the cause of metabolic damage and weight gain in humans. The experimental results are the same when applied to the human body. When the rest time is abnormal, which causes jet lag in the body, it will also affect the bacteria in the intestines. These bacteria whose physiological cycles are disrupted will affect the body's metabolism and cause obesity problems.

However, the good news is that these effects can actually be avoided. Robin Michelle Voigt, assistant professor of digestive diseases and nutrition at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, said, "Experiments have found that these bacteria that can cause negative effects only appear when the body's biological clock is disrupted and high-calorie, high-sugar foods are eaten, so we must be careful about our dietary choices."

In addition, if your sleep pattern is unstable, you can also use regular exercise to restore the number of bacteria in your intestines to normal. So if you are unable to return to your normal routine for the time being, remember to move more at home and avoid eating high-calorie foods when staying up late.
