According to a survey on obesity among Taiwanese, nearly 40% of women have the "pear-shaped obesity" with bloated hips and legs, while more than half of men have the "apple-shaped obesity" with beer bellies. According to a survey on obesity among Taiwanese, nearly 40% of women suffer from "pear-like obesity" with bloated hips and legs.

Professor Lin Jiajing of Ilan University pointed out that after the gene decoding in 2003, it has been confirmed that 150 genes in the human body are related to obesity. This survey found that there are 5 types of obesity physiques in Asians that are related to weak genes, including: UCP1 gene is related to "pear stubborn obesity physique", PPAR-γ gene is related to "water drop edema obesity physique", GNB3 gene is related to "donut soft obesity physique", ADRB2 gene is related to "apple candy type obesity physique", and ADRB3 gene is related to "apple lipid obesity physique".

Xie Mingzhe, CEO of the Everyone Weight Management Foundation and professor of nutrition at Taipei Medical University, pointed out that the two most common types of obesity in Taiwan are "stubborn pear type" and "apple lipid type". Women mainly have the "stubborn pear type" physique, and most chronic diseases are related to this obese physique, such as diabetes. As for men, they mainly belong to the "apple lipid type" physique, which includes liver disease and cirrhosis, which are closely related to beer belly. Regardless of the type of obesity, the common characteristics are lack of diet control, high stress in life, and slow metabolism, which increases the difficulty of weight loss.

"Weight loss strategies for 5 major obese body types"

Type 1: Water droplet edema obesity

Body shape: The waist is not obvious, and the body is a teardrop shape with obesity in the upper abdomen and edema in the lower body.

Recommendation: Avoid high-salt, high-fat diets, eat less pickled, fried, processed foods and iced drinks, and drink herbal teas and barley and red bean water to help diuresis. Exercise your lower body muscles more often, which can be achieved through slimming exercises, flywheels, and leg raises.

Type 2: Donut-like obesity

Recommendation: Maintain a balanced diet, eat small meals frequently, avoid late-night snacks and drinking, choose low-calorie and high-fiber foods to control appetite, or eat kelp and algae to improve metabolism. Avoid strenuous exercise. You can incorporate exercise into your daily life by walking more and climbing stairs.

Type 3: Candy Apple Obesity

Body type: A medium to wide body type with obesity in the waist and abdomen, commonly known as a beer belly.

Recommendation: Eat three balanced meals, eat less snacks, late night snacks and sugary drinks, replace refined rice and noodles with high-fiber whole grains as staple food, drink green tea, and consume more foods containing polyphenols.

Type 4: Apple lipid obesity

Body type: A medium to wide body type with obesity in the waist and abdomen, commonly known as a beer belly.

Recommendation: Avoid late-night snacks and reduce drinking at social gatherings. High-cholesterol and high-fat foods are also landmine foods, such as seafood, fatty meat, offal, fried chicken steaks, etc.

Type 5: Pear-type stubborn obesity

Body shape: Fat is mainly accumulated in the thighs and buttocks. There is a waist and the body shape is like a pear, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom.

Recommendation: Maintain a low-fat, light diet, eat less midnight snacks, desserts and cold drinks, and increase protein intake. Eggs, tofu and fresh fish are good choices. You can burn fat through cardio aerobic exercise and combine it with anaerobic exercise to increase your metabolic rate and firm your muscles.

Treating obesity: Genes, diet, exercise, detoxification
