Will cervical erosion affect pregnancy? What are the symptoms of cervical erosion?

Will cervical erosion affect pregnancy? What are the symptoms of cervical erosion?

Some patients have raised the question: If cervical erosion is not treated, will the entire cervix rot? In fact, cervical erosion is not real erosion. It is caused by chronic cervicitis. The inflammation in the deep tissue of the cervix is not easy to eliminate. The squamous epithelium on the surface of the cervix falls off due to nutritional disorders, and the peeling surface is gradually covered by the columnar epithelium derived from the proliferation of the cervical canal. Because the columnar epithelium is very thin, the blood vessels and red stroma underneath can be seen, making the eroded surface red, with a clear boundary with the surrounding normal squamous epithelium.

What are the symptoms of cervical erosion?

When suffering from mild cervical erosion, patients generally have no obvious symptoms, or only a slight increase in leucorrhea, which is often easily overlooked. Cervical erosion in many patients is discovered during a census or when they visit the doctor for other gynecological diseases. The most obvious symptom of patients with moderate and severe cervical erosion is an increase in leucorrhea, which is yellow and sticky, or blood in the leucorrhea. A small number of patients may have bleeding after sexual intercourse. Inflammatory leucorrhea can stimulate the vulva for a long time and can also cause vulvar pruritus. In addition, because the cervical lymphatics are directly connected to the paracervical connective tissue, inflammation can spread to the pelvic cavity through the lymphatic circulation, leading to pelvic connective tissue inflammation, and symptoms such as lumbar pain, lower abdominal distension, etc. Infertility in a small number of patients may also be caused by cervical erosion.

Will cervical erosion affect pregnancy?

When a woman has cervical erosion, the cervical secretions will increase significantly and become thicker. Since they contain a large number of white blood cells, when sperm passes through the cervix, the inflammatory environment will reduce the activity of sperm, and the thick secretions will also make it difficult for sperm to pass through. Inflammatory cells will also devour a large number of sperm, and the remaining sperm will be destroyed by bacteria and their toxins. If there is also an E. coli infection, the sperm will also produce a strong agglutination effect, causing the sperm to lose its vitality. The above various toxic effects on sperm cause the sperm to consume too much energy and shorten its lifespan, which not only has a certain impact on the activity of sperm, but also hinders the sperm from entering the uterine cavity, thereby ultimately reducing the chance of sperm and egg combining. Therefore, cervical erosion will affect fertility.

However, not all patients with cervical erosion will be infertile. Mild cervical erosion has no obvious symptoms and generally does not affect fertility. Moderate and severe cervical erosion can affect pregnancy, but it is not absolute.
