What are the dangers of severe cervical erosion?

Cervical erosion can be divided into three categories according to the area of erosion: mild, moderate and severe. Severe cervical erosion refers to the erosion area exceeding 2/3 of the total area of the cervix. The main manifestations are increased and sticky leucorrhea with blood inside. Contact bleeding and irregular vaginal bleeding may also be seen. Severe cervical erosion is very harmful to women. If not treated in time, it may even cause female infertility.

1. Susceptible to human papillomavirus infection

Cervical cancer is currently the only gynecological malignancy with a clear etiology, and is associated with persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV). Although cervical erosion is not a precursor to cervical cancer and has no direct relationship with cervical cancer, when a woman has a large area of cervical erosion, she is relatively susceptible to HPV infection.

2. Secondary infection

Long-term inflammatory stimulation of the cervix can cause a variety of gynecological inflammations, such as endometritis, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. If the inflammation goes up, it can also cause urinary system diseases, with irritating symptoms such as urinary pain, frequent urination or difficulty urinating, which seriously affects women's work and study.

3. Cause female infertility

Patients with severe cervical erosion have increased vaginal discharge, which is thick and contains a large number of white blood cells, which may affect the motility of sperm and make it more difficult for sperm to reach the uterus. Even if women can conceive, the chance of miscarriage during pregnancy will increase due to the reduced protective effect of the cervix on the uterus.
