Contraindications and indications for curettage of artificial abortion

Artificial abortion refers to the termination of pregnancy by surgical method within 3 months of pregnancy, including vacuum aspiration and curettage. Before using curettage, the cervix needs to be prepared accordingly, such as using a rubber catheter to dilate the cervical canal; taking prostaglandin preparations orally, intramuscularly or vaginally 3 hours before the operation to dilate and soften the cervix, etc. Its indications and contraindications mainly include the following:

1. Indications

Those who want to terminate the pregnancy within 10 to 14 weeks of pregnancy without contraindications; or those who are not suitable to continue the pregnancy due to certain diseases (including genetic diseases); or those who have failed other abortion methods.

2. Contraindications

(1) Those with untreated or uncured genital inflammation such as vaginitis, cervicitis, and endometritis;

(2) Patients who cannot tolerate surgery due to systemic diseases such as heart failure, tuberculosis, severe anemia, or patients who cannot tolerate surgery in the acute phase of various diseases;

(3) Acidosis caused by severe vomiting during pregnancy is not corrected;

(4) Body temperature is above 37.5℃ twice within 4 hours before surgery.

In short, abortion is a last resort remedial measure for women who fail to obtain contraception. Women who need to undergo curettage should strictly follow its indications and contraindications to avoid unnecessary harm. At the same time, it should be noted that women who need to undergo artificial abortion should choose a regular hospital and the operation should be performed by a professional doctor.
