Super fat man loses weight! You can lose 200 kg after surgery

A 44-year-old man named Li who lives in Jiadong Township, Pingtung County weighs nearly 300 kilograms and has suffered from obesity for many years. Fortunately, the Kaohsiung E-DA medical team decided to lend a helping hand and perform weight loss surgery on him. The doctor said that this is the highest record of "super obesity" in the country. It is roughly estimated that the treatment time is expected to take 2 to 3 years. The patient will be hospitalized for observation for 1 month in the initial stage, and then a two-stage weight loss surgery will be performed, including sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery, combined with partial plastic surgery, in the hope that the weight can be controlled within 100 kilograms.

The fat man drinks Sarsaparilla every day and his whole family is obese

Dr. Huang Zhikun, director of the International Weight Loss and Diabetes Surgery Center of E-Da Hospital, pointed out that two weeks ago, a religious charity group took the initiative to visit him and told him that there was a man in Pingtung who weighed more than 100 kilograms more than two years ago and was able to go out and ride a motorcycle. However, he later had an accident and was recuperating at home. Unexpectedly, his weight soared to more than 300 kilograms, making him unable to move. Not only did it cause difficulties in his life, it even seriously affected his life safety.

So they took the initiative to visit the patient and found that the patient had a fractured leg, but he continued to drink sugary drinks and even had a breathless state when talking. They hoped that the hospital could help him lose weight. They also observed that the patient's brother and sister were both obese. It can be said that the whole family is obese and they all drink sugary drinks every day. As the patient's family was not well off, the medical team immediately decided to lend a helping hand and at the same time raised funds through charity organizations to help this super obese man realize his wish of losing weight.

The obese man is expected to keep his weight under 100 kg within 2 years after the operation

Dr. Huang Zhikun pointed out that more than 10 people were dispatched this morning (9th), who dragged him by the hand with a blanket, placed him in the trunk, and sent him to the hospital. The actual weight measured in the hospital was 261 kg. In addition to being overweight, her cardiopulmonary function and blood sugar levels were both unqualified. Therefore, it was decided to hospitalize her for observation. Through nutritional weight loss and exercise rehabilitation, she would first control her weight to around 200 kg in preparation for subsequent weight loss surgery. It is expected that she will be able to effectively control her weight to less than 100 kg within 2 years.

Fat man is morbidly obese and needs two-stage surgery to lose weight

Basically, there are many different methods of weight loss surgery. The main principle is to limit the patient's food intake or limit the absorption of the digestive tract. Common restrictive surgeries include: sleeve gastrectomy and intragastric balloon, and common restrictive combined malabsorption surgery includes gastric bypass surgery. Currently, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery are the most widely used weight loss surgeries.

As for the surgical weight loss method, the medical team expects to perform it in one month, using a two-stage approach. Dr. Huang Zhikun emphasized that in the initial stage, a less invasive sleeve resection surgery will be performed to remove 2/3 to 3/4 of the stomach, which will reduce the patient's food intake and weight, and also help improve existing problems such as the three highs or poor liver and kidney function.

Goal: weight loss in 2 years, ideally 100 kg

For this extremely obese patient, gastric bypass surgery will be performed six months after the operation. Because this type of surgery is highly invasive, it mainly divides the stomach into a small stomach and a terminal stomach. The small stomach is used to receive food, and the large stomach is used to receive digestive juices. 1/3 of the small intestine is bypassed and does not absorb nutrients, which can reduce the patient's food intake and reduce small intestine absorption, allowing the weight to drop naturally.

It is worth noting that due to the reduced food intake, the patient has to take vitamins for life. On the other hand, because the patient has a fractured foot and a lot of fat tissue, the skin elasticity of the lower limbs is poor, and he will have to undergo abdominal and leg facelifts. Although there will be short-term sequelae of hair loss, it will gradually recover after 6 months; the benefit is that metabolic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be alleviated at the same time. The medical team hopes that within 2 to 3 years, the weight can be controlled within 100 kilograms, which will be considered a successful weight loss.

【Doctor's reminder】:

For patients with morbid obesity, weight loss surgery is the most effective treatment, but surgery is not recommended for those who are just overweight or slightly obese. People with a BMI of 40 or above are recommended to undergo weight loss surgery, but before the surgery, you should ask a doctor to assess your physical condition and whether you are suitable for the surgery. The assessment items include age, complications, anesthesia risks, etc.
