Will adenomyosis turn into cancer? What are the treatments?

1. Adenomyosis may still become malignant, but generally speaking, the chance of malignant transformation is not high, and the disease grows slowly, usually degenerating during pregnancy and stopping development after menopause, so the prognosis is generally good. If the lesion is too extensive or the intestine is invaded, a serious complication, intestinal obstruction, may occur. Adenomyosis rarely complicates pregnancy, but it is also prone to miscarriage, premature birth or tubal pregnancy after pregnancy.

2. For women over 30 years old, secondary and progressive dysmenorrhea is the main symptom of this disease. If the menstrual volume increases, the menstrual period is prolonged, the lesion range is too extensive, or the intestine is invaded, a serious complication such as intestinal obstruction may occur. Adenomyosis rarely complicates pregnancy, but miscarriage, premature birth or fallopian tube pregnancy are also prone to occur after pregnancy.

The cause of adenomyosis is still unclear. The current consensus is that because the uterus lacks a submucosal layer, the basal cells of the endometrium proliferate and invade the myometrium, accompanied by compensatory hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the surrounding myometrial cells, forming a lesion.

For patients with adenomyosis, Western medicine generally adopts the following treatments:

1. Drug treatment

For young patients who want to have children, are near menopause, and are unwilling to undergo surgical treatment, drug treatment can be considered. However, if drug treatment is ineffective or severe dysmenorrhea occurs for a long time, surgical treatment should be performed.

2. Surgical treatment

Surgical treatment includes conservative surgery and radical surgery.

Conservative surgery includes adenomyosis lesion adenomyoma resection, endometrial and myometrial resection, laparoscopic myometrial electrocoagulation, etc. Radical surgery is hysterectomy.
