What causes cervicitis?

What is the cause of cervicitis? Gynecological inflammation has always been a common disease among our female friends, and cervicitis is one of them. Compared with the frequent occurrence of vaginitis, many patients may not know much about cervicitis, let alone what causes the disease. Let's take a closer look at what is the cause of cervicitis?

Cervicitis is a common disease in women of childbearing age, which can be divided into acute and chronic cervicitis. Chronic cervicitis is more common in clinical practice, and is often transformed from acute cervicitis. It is often caused by childbirth, abortion or surgery that damages the cervix. Pathogens invade the cervical mucosa and hide there. Due to the many folds of the cervical mucosa, the infection is not easy to completely eliminate and often turns into chronic cervicitis.

When the pH value of the female vagina is between 3.8 and 4.2, it will form a natural protection against bacteria. However, when women start to have sexual intercourse, menstruation, semen, oral contraceptives, etc., the pH value of the vagina will be disturbed, thereby weakening the acidic protection of the vagina, which is conducive to the growth of viruses and increases the risk of vaginal infection. If vaginitis is not cured, it will ascend and cause pelvic inflammation or cervicitis.

In addition, it is also related to excessive sexual activity, physical or chemical stimulation, endometritis, and vaginitis. Chronic cervicitis is related to the incidence of cervical cancer. The incidence of cervical cancer in patients with cervical erosion is 0.75%, which is significantly higher than that in patients without cervical erosion. Therefore, active treatment of cervicitis is of great significance in preventing the occurrence of cervical cancer.

Chronic cervicitis causes local mucosal hyperplasia of the cervical canal and protrudes toward the external cervical opening to form polyps. Polyps are single or multiple, red, tongue-shaped, soft and brittle, easy to bleed, with a slender pedicle, and a diameter of about 1 cm. Cervical polyps rarely become malignant, less than 1%, but they are prone to recurrence.

Some women pay much attention to hygiene, but lack the necessary knowledge. They often use high concentration disinfectant to wash the vagina, which is counterproductive. This is because it will not only affect the growth of normal vaginal flora and reduce its ability to inhibit bacteria, but also cause varying degrees of cervical epithelial damage and eventually inflammation. Therefore, the right method should be used to clean the genitals, and it should not be excessive.
