Elderly women should be alert to vaginitis in autumn and winter

Autumn and winter are the peak seasons for vaginitis. Many women will suffer from vaginitis in autumn and winter. Because the estrogen level of elderly women decreases after menopause, the defense ability of the vagina decreases accordingly, and there are still many chances of bacterial infection. The elderly should not stay out of it. If they have symptoms, they should see a doctor immediately. Otherwise, they will not only suffer themselves, but also have a great impact on the sexual life of the couple.

Senile vaginitis, also known as atrophic vaginitis, is a non-specific vaginitis. It is often manifested by an increase in yellowish vaginal discharge. In severe cases, there may be bloody purulent vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding, and a feeling of falling, pain, and burning in the vagina. If the vestibule and the mucosa around the urethra are involved, frequent urination and dysuria often occur. Senile vaginitis is generally not difficult to diagnose, but many elderly patients are unwilling to face this problem. They would rather toss it themselves, or use hot water to scald it, or buy suppositories themselves. They are very worried about going to the hospital to see a doctor and feel embarrassed, which easily delays the disease.

Patients should seek medical attention promptly, otherwise it may cause: 1. Bleeding during sexual intercourse; 2. Cause vaginal wall ulcers, leading to vaginal adhesions, and in severe cases, vaginal stenosis or even occlusion. At this time, the increased secretions will not flow out smoothly, causing pus to accumulate in the vagina or even in the uterus, forming pyometra, and making the inflammation more serious.

Senile vaginitis is not difficult to treat. As long as you seek medical attention in time and receive regular treatment, you will recover soon. Senile vaginitis is mainly treated with antibiotics and hormones. If the patient is worried about the side effects of oral hormones, hormones can be used locally in the vagina. Hormones can be used intermittently under the guidance of a doctor, and do not have to be used long-term and continuously. When the elderly experience discomfort in the vulva, do not use drugs indiscriminately based on past experience, and do not use hormone ointments indiscriminately for vulvar vaginitis as vulvar eczema, which will be counterproductive.
