Which patients with uterine fibroids are suitable for drug treatment?

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female genitals, but if not treated in time, they can also cause great harm to female patients, so early and correct treatment is very important. In daily life, many patients are afraid of surgery, so they hope for drug treatment, but not all patients are suitable for drug treatment. People who are suitable for drug treatment include:

1. Young patients who require preservation of fertility

For some elderly patients, hysterectomy can be used to achieve the treatment goal; however, for women of childbearing age, hysterectomy cannot be used because of the need to have children. If uterine fibroids affect women's conception or cause miscarriage, drug treatment can be used to shrink the fibroids, thereby promoting conception and allowing the fetus to survive.

2. Those with mild symptoms

Drug treatment can be used when the patient has mild or no symptoms and the uterus does not enlarge beyond the level of 8 weeks of pregnancy.

3. Women approaching menopause

The occurrence of uterine fibroids may be related to endocrine disorders caused by long-term high estrogen levels, and they often shrink after menopause. Women approaching menopause can use medication to treat the uterus, which shrinks the uterus and the fibroids, eliminating the need for surgery.

In addition to the above situations, patients who have surgical indications but currently have contraindications and need to be treated before surgery can use drug treatment; patients with combined medical and surgical diseases who are not competent for surgery or are unwilling to undergo surgery can use drug treatment. It should be noted that women who receive drug treatment need to undergo endometrial biopsy before treatment to rule out malignant changes.
